A Shilling for Candles is a gripping detective story by British writer Josephine Tey (1896–1952).
Film star Christine Clay is found dead on a beach in Kent. The evidence points to murder. Anne’s House of Dreams is a novel by the Canadian writer Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874–1942), which is a sequel of the book series about Anne Shirley.

Mrs. Dalloway is the novel by Virginia Woolf (1882–1941). It is a masterpiece of the “golden age” of English modernism.

The Case of Charles Dexter Ward is a horror novel by the American writer H. P. Lovecraft (1890–1937). Charles Dexter Ward, a young man from a famous family, mysteriously disappeared from a mental hospital. Family doctor Willet tries to investigate the cause of Ward’s insanity and physiological changes. Willett learns that Ward has been trying to find the grave of his ancestor, Joseph Carven, for the past few years.

The protagonist of the novel This Side of Paradise (1920) by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Amory Blaine, is a middleclass Princeton University student. He is convinced that he has an extremely promising future. But his family inheritance has dissipated, and he is unlucky in love. In a crisis, he travels from New York to his alma mater. Blaine believes that the new generation has inherited disappointment and loss of faith, but still yearns for love and success.

The edition includes two works by Arthur Conan Doyle (1859—1930). The Great Shadow—an adventure story set in an Anglo-Scottish border village at the end of the Napoleonic era, including a fascinating interpretation of the Battle of Waterloo, as well as The Disintegration Machine—which is a fantasy story from the Professor Challenger series.
